Brewsday Tuesday: Tecate
Winn Dixie had a Cinco de Mayo mix pack on sale and I took the bait. It included three bottles of four kinds of beer. Since I never had tried Tecate, I figured I would give it a whirl. It was not a pleasant experience.
Name: Tecate
Brewed by: Cervecria Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma, S.A. de C.V.
Location: Monterrey, Mexico
Style/ABV: American Adjunct Lager / 4.5%
Appearance: Pours a straw yellow with a weak one finger bright white head that quickly disappears. No lacing is present.
Smell: Corn and some biscuit malts present with some hay and rice aromas.
Taste: The rice and corn flavors dominate. There is a hint of hopiness but barely.
Mouthfeel: Thin and watery with high carbonation.
Overall: This is Mexico’s version of Budweiser. It is thoroughly underwhelming, and I am sad I have to drink two more of these.
Final Grade: D
