Brewsday Tuesday: Captain Stout
Unlike last week, I got the last beer from Anyaa in the fridge so I could review it instead of some Mexican swill from Cinco de Mayo (don’t worry, those are coming soon). Pulling the Captain Stout out I took a moment to look at the label. It was quite intricate. I popped the top and poured it into an imperial pint glass, eager to give it a try.
Name: Captain Stout
Brewed by: Alpine Beer Company
Location: Alpine, CA
Style/ABV: American Stout / 6.0%
Appearance: Pours a dark brown with only a hint of deep amber when held up to the light. A two finger mocha colored head you could chew on sits on top of the beer that slowly disappears.
Smell: Chocolate mixed with coffee and some sweetness. Very nice.
Taste: Opens with some dark chocolate and coffee. Roasted malts take over in the middle. Some dairy sweetness is then present before the dry finish. This is a delight to drink.
Mouthfeel: Medium body with low carbonation. Silky.
Overall: This is a nice balanced stout. It packs a lot of flavors without being over the top. I am really pleased that I got to try this beer, and am sad I am out of West Coast beers!
Final Grade: A

Anyaa gave you a very nice mix of beers! Good reviews!
She really did! This beer would have been perfect on a cool fall night.
